The Dwight Junior High 8th Grade Volleyball team is beginning to hit their stride, picking up a 3rd place finish in the Illinois Valley Conference Tournament on Saturday followed by a big road win Monday night against Bishop McNamara.
The Redbirds traveled to Gardner to finish up the IVC tournament with a pair of games on Saturday. After falling in a close set of matches to top-seed Saratoga, 19-25, 17-25, the Birds wen on to defeat MVK in two sets 25-5, 25-19 and finish third overall!
Alexis Thetard led the day with 18 points and nine aces while Toni Treglio led the team with six kills. Jenna Stogner led the team with 13 assists and Hailey Heath added 12 points and two digs.
On Monday night, the Redbirds traveled to Kankakee and defeated Bishop McNamara in three sets: 26-24, 18-25, 25-15. Once again, Thetard led the Dwight effort with 13 points, six aces and three huge blocks. Along with Thetard, Stogner and Treglio each had four kills. Stogner led with six assists and Treglio posted nine service points. Jordan Schultz led the team with three digs, adding seven points and two back row kills.
