The Dwight Youth Baseball and Softball league had to improvise a bit thanks to mother nature, and while the annual opening day parade had to be called off the league's season opening ceremony was held Sunday afternoon in the DTHS gym to kick off the 2018 season.
In addition to announcing the winners of the league's raffle fundraiser, DYBS President Terry Wilkey informed the crowd that the league, in conjunction with the Village of Dwight, had formally renamed the Bronco Level field at Garrett Park after longtime supporter and current at-large board member Jim Enger.
For over 30 years, in addition to umpiring and serving on the board, Enger has organized and run the league's annual end-of-year tournament that now bears his name. At it's beginning the tournament comprised teams only at the Bronco (12U) level, but has now grown to a full-scale three division tournament including teams from Mustang (10U) and Pinto (8U) levels and is annually scheduled for the third weekend in July.
Assuming the weather begins to cooperate, the season will be in full swing with games at all levels starting this week.
