Junior High Softball: BUGC Captures Regional Crown

Kiersten Martin stepped to the plate in the eighth-inning of Monday afternoon's Regional Championship matchup with Beecher, and drove in Mallory Ninis with a rope to centerfield to give the Bourbonnais UGC Tiger's softball team a walk-off win over the Lady Cats, 12-11.

BUGC opened up the scoring in the first inning, plating two runs on a double by Jori Dowling.

The Tigers added four runs in the bottom of the third, driven by a doulbles from Libby Spaulding and Daugherty, but the Lady Cats responded in the top half of the fourth after Abby Sippel led the charge with an RBI triple to open the scoring,

In what was an exciting see-saw battle, the Lady Cats held took an 11-10 lead into the bottom of the seventh when Evie Lamie tripled to dead center score Emerson Longtin to send the game into an extra frame.

Spaulding earned the win in the circle for BUGC, allowing eight runs on seven hits over six innings, striking out two, aided by the Tigers defense flashing some leather, led by Longtin at shortstop.

Cynthia Hon started the game for the Lady Cats, posting three innings of work, allowing eight runs on six hits, striking out two. Kylie Cook threw four and a third innings out of the bullpen.

The Tigers will prepare to play in the Manteno Sectional Championship game Saturday, September 15 at 11:00am. They will face the winner of the Frankfort Summit Hill Regional, which will be either Summit Hill - whose only loss this season was to BUGC - or Frakfort Hickory Creek. That game is slated for 4:30pm tonight.
