Opening round games for the Class 3A Kankakee Junior High Baseball Regional took place Monday afternoon.
No. 1 seed Manteno and No. 2 seed Limestone received first-round byes in single-elimination bracket, while the No. 4 seed Kays topped No. 5 seed Peotone, 11-2, and No. 3 seed Bourbonnais UGC used a big fifth inning to eliminated No. 6 seed Bradley-Central.
The Kays will face Manteno at 10:00am on Saturday, and immediately after BUGC will take the filed against Limestone.
Kankakee (11) - Peotone (2)
The Kays defeated Peotone 11-2 thanks to a strong start, scoring first on a passed ball during Jaeden Harris's at bat in the first inning and then exploding with a six-run second inning to run away with an 11-2 victory over the Blue Devils
Lucas Hebert and Harris doubled to lead the charge for the Kays, along with Andrew Shepherd, Nathan Webber, Jaden Hodges, and Blake Trumble all contributing with RBI's during the big inning.
Trumble led the Kays to victory on the pitcher's mound, surrendering just two runs on three hits over four and two-thirds innings, striking out three. Hodges threw two and a third innings in relief out of the bullpen.
Hebert went 2-for-4 at the plate to lead Kays in hits.
BUGC (12) - Bradley-Central (2)
BUGC nabbed the lead late in the game in a 12-2 victory over Bradley-Central on Tuesday. The Tigers were down 2-1 in the bottom of the fifth inning when Thomas Offill doubled on a 3-2 count, scoring two runs.
The Tigers secured the victory thanks to 11 runs in the fifth inning. Offill, Dominic Panozzo, Ethan Zirbel, Anthony Kemp, Jeremiah Renchen, and Wesley Latham each had RBIs in the big inning.
Carson Long toed the rubber for the Tigers, logging four and a third innings, allowing two runs on three hits, striking out nine and walking one.
