Junior High Baseball: Area Regional Round-up

Area junior high baseball teams will be vying for Regional Championships around the area this afternoon.

Over in the Class 2A Nash Regional, the No. 1 seed Bishop McNamara Fighting Irish baseball team ran away with a 9-0 victory over No. 5 seed St. George during thier Saturday morning semifinal matchup, while host and No. 2 seed Clifton-Nash battled No. 3 seed Beecher and came away with a 3-2 win in their contest.

Kankakee Junior High hosted the Class 3A Regional semifinals on Saturday morning with No. 3 seed Bourbonnais UGC blowing away No. 2 seed Limestone, 12-2 in their matchup, and No. 1 seed Manteno topping host and No. 4 seed Kankakee, 5-0.

The Class A Grant Park Regional Championship will feature the No. 3 seed Grant Park hosting the No. 1 seed Milford.

Nash Regional

Bishop Mac (9) - St. George (0)

Bishop McNamara defeated St. George 9-0 on Saturday with Drake Smith and Collin Barzantny combining for the shutout.

The Irish scattered their nine runs across the six innings, with a three-run fifth inning putting the game out of reach.

Smith earned the win on the hill for the Irish, logging six innings, allowing two hits and zero runs while striking out three and walking one. Barzantny threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen allowing one hit, and striking out the final batter of the game.

Bishop Mac totaled ten hits in the game, with Landon Provost, Jaxson Provost, Smith, and Barzantny each posting multi-hit games.

Clifton Nash (3) - Beecher (2)

Both teams were strong from the mound Saturday, but Clifton-Nash held off a sixth-inning surge from Beecher to defeat the Tigers, 3-2. 

Miachael Alberts was the winning pitcher for the Rockets, going five and two-thirds innings, allowing two runs on three hits and striking out seven. Amarion Paxton threw one and one-third innings in relief out of the bullpen, recording the last four outs to earn the save for Clifton-Nash.

Paxton led the offensive charge for the Rockets with a 3-for-3 showing at the plate, while Zachary Gorcowski led Beecher with two hits in two at bats.

The Irish will travel to John L. Nash Middle School to face the Rockets this afternoon, with a scheduled 4:30p.m. first-pitch.

Kankakee Regional

BUGC (12) - Limestone (2)

The Bourbonnais UGC Tigers easily did away with Limestone 12-2 on Saturday in their contest.

Jason Soucie earned the win for the Tigers from the mound, lasting five and two-thirds innings, allowing three hits and zero runs while striking out six and walking one.

BUGC racked up 11 hits on the day, with Anthony Kemp, Thomas Offill, and Ethan Zirbel each collected multiple hits for the Tigers. Kemp led the charge with a 3-for-3 day from the plate.

Manteno (5) - Kankakee (0)

Manteno used a two-run third inning, and a three-run fifth inning to end the Kays season.

Jaeden Harris, Pablo Varela, and Andrew Shepherd provided the only offense for the Kays during the afternoon.

Blake Trumble took the loss for Kays, allowing eight hits and five runs over six innings, striking out four.

BUGC and Manteno will face-off in the Regional Championship Game at 4:30p.m. at Alpiner Park in Kankakee.
