Junior High Baseball: Big Fifth Inning leads BUGC to Manteno Regional Championshp

The Bourbonnais Upper Grade Center Tigers put up six runs in the fifth inning on the way to a 10-3 victory over Manteno in the Class 3A Manteno Regional Championship game on Monday. 

Carson Long, Anthony Kemp, Jeremiah Renchen, Thomas Offill, Dominic Panozzo, and Keegan Cole all powered the big inning with RBIs in the frame.

The Tigers began to pull away for good with three runs in the fourth inning when Ethan Zirbel tripled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring two runs followed by a Renchen single on a 2-1 count, driving in another.

Long opened the game on the hill for the Tigers, logging six innings, allowing two runs on eight hits and striking out four. Renchen entered the game in the bottom of the seventh with no out and induced a Panther double-play, before getting the final out on a grounder to Panozzo.

The BUGC offense produced 12 hits in the game, with Kemp leading the way with a 3-for-3 showing at the plate.

This Saturday, the Tigers will head to Coal City to face Ottawa Shepherd who advanced to the Sectional round with a 10-7 win over the Warriors in the Coal City Regional Championship - first pitch is slated for 11:00a.m..
