The Bishop McNamara Junior High baseball team plated a run in each of the final two innings during Saturday afternoon's Sectional Championship game against Morris Saratoga to post a 5-4 victory over the hosts, punching a ticket to this weekend's State Finals in East Peoria.
With the game tied at three and the Irish (14-2) batting in the top of the sixth, Drew Willis singled on a 1-2 count, scoring one run to take the lead.
Bishop Mac tallied three runs in the fourth inning, sparked by a single by Drake Smith and a fielder's choice by Jaxson Provost.
Michael O’Connor earned the win on the hill for the Irish, logging two and two-thirds innings, allowing zero runs on zero hits, striking out six and walking none.
Smith started the game on the mound for Bishop Mac, posting four and a third innings, allowing three runs on four hits and striking out five.
Smith, Willis, Collin Barzantny, Jackson Mills, Landon Provost, and Sevin Keigher each collected one hit to lead the Irish.
The Irish will travel to Eastside Centre in East Peoria for a Friday afternoon Quarterfinal matchup with Teutopolis (17-2) - first pitch is scheduled for 2:30 pm.
