Junior High Baseball: BUGC State bid falls short to Ottawa

The Bourbonnais Upper Grade Center Baseball team's quest for a trip to this year's State Finals ended after falling 2-1 to Ottawa Shepherd (12-2) during the Coal City Sectional Final last Saturday.

After five scoreless innings of play, Shepherd jumped ahead 1-0 in the bottom of the sixth inning. The Tigers responded in the top of the seventh when Jeremiah Renchen doubled to score Luke Laney and send the game to the bottom of the seventh all even.

The game remained tied into the bottom half of the eighth inning when Shepherd earned the walk-off winner on a single to score the game-winner and end the BUGC run.

Jason Soucie went seven innings for the Tigers on the mound, allowing three hits and one run, striking out six. Carson Long took the loss in relief for BUGC, giving up one run on three hits during the final inning.

BUGC totaled six hits on the day, with Dominic Panozzo and Renchen each posting multi-hit games.

The Tigers finished their 2018 campaign with the Manteno Regional Championship, and a final record of 8-9.
