Junior High Girls Basketball: Dwight takes 3rd in Elwood Tournament

Dwight's 8th Grade Lady Redbirds took 3rd place at the Elwood Tournament in action this past Friday and Saturday. Redbird sharpshooter Mikalah Bregin also finished in second place in the free throw shooting competition.


Friday

The Lady Redbirds lost to Beecher in their tournament opener, led by Iris Beier's eight points. Maya Green added three points and Addy Harms was 1-for-2 from the free throw line. 

Saturday

The Lady Redbirds bounced back from Friday's defeat, topping Cheney Monge 23-10 - holding Cheney scoreless in the fourth quarter.

The Redbirds were led by Bregin with 15 points. Green added four points, while Emelia Eitenmiller and Harlie Boucher each had two points. 

In the third place game, the Lady Redbirds defeated Joliet Laraway 26-18.

At the half the Redbirds were down seven, but outscored Laraway 10-2 in the third quarter to regain the lead.   

The Redbirds were led by Kira Bean with 10 points, while Bregin added eight. Beier posted six points and Harms had two.

"The girls played outstanding defense in the second half to take control of the game" said Redbird Coach Chuck Butterbrodt.

The Redbirds are now 3-3 on the season and will travel to Gardner for a conference game on Tuesday.
